Ambassadors of Poland and Lithuania Visited UG

On November 13, 2017 Department of History, School of Arts and Humanities, the University of Georgia hosted distinguished guests: the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Georgia, HE Mariusz Maszkiewicz, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia HE Giedrius Puodžiūnasand, Itsik Moshe - the founder and chair of the Israeli House, and the delegation from Israel, deputy mayor of Rishon LeZion (the fourth-largest city in Israel) Yosi Khamam.

Department of History organized a special event : ‘Pure Son of Liberty’ dedicated to the 200th anniversary of a national hero in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, and the United States - Thaddeus Kosciuszko’s (1746-1817) passing and Polish Independence Day . The UNESCO declared 2017 as a Year of Kosciuszko.

Students and professors of the University of Georgia, also, high schools students, principals and history teachers from Tbilisi high schools #45, 52, 89, 1st Experimental, “Albioni”, and “UG school” participated in this event.

The first part was interactive workshop on: Who Was Kosciuszko? and the second one – “Oral History”, during which HEs and, Mr.Moshe answered UG, and High School Students’ questions.

Deputy Mayor of Israeli city handed city Rishon LeZion peace medal to Tsira Chikvaidze( head, department of History).
